Career Fair
November 5th, 2010So I went to a career fair for the first time last Thursday. It was a pretty big career fair, where affiliate companies of the computer science and engineering department at UW all came to talk to students. It was pretty rocking! I didn’t really know what to do though: am I supposed to offer my resume first, or should I wait until they ask for it? I don’t know! I did get to talk to a few companies, but I was much too chicken to talk to Amazon or Google or Microsoft because I was afraid of being asked a programming question >_>;
I find that I prefer being asked programming questions – it’s clear what the topic of discussion is, and what my role is. If I don’t get it, oh well, at least I can ask to clarify, and I probably wouldn’t be much better prepared if they called me anyway. (I’ve gotten simple stack/queue questions, as a heads up.)
But otherwise, I really don’t know how people can’t talk to the recruiters for more than 3 minutes. “Hi! I’m a senior, but want an internship anyway. Here’s my resume!”
… Yay?
oh i read this one on the daily~
LOL! This is EXACTLY what I did! I was like, walking up to booths, and they’re like “So what are you looking for?” and I was like “…..uhhh……an…..internship? ….maybe?” And they give me this face, and eventually I looked in my binder, found my old, crumpled, resume, and was like “hehe, do you want my one copy of my resume?” and the woman at apple was like “well…….why not.”
